List of 10 things and why they Devalue your Degree. If you realize your graduation degree is no longer worth as much as previous or perhaps you recently got unemployed from your high paying jobs or maybe even be in the majority of the population in the unemployed section.
- Foreign Talent – We don’t like FTs but the government states that FT help to do the jobs we do not want to do. Yup. Fair enough. But who wouldn’t clean the streets if they are paid 5000 monthly? Definitely wouldn’t be me. Pricing is determined by demand and supply so is the price on your head. When supply are scarce pricing increase. This is the natural momentum of market forces. When you bring in FTs, they tilt this balance.
- Schools are a Plenty and Easy barriers to entry – Schools are meant to provide education.. Yes. But, unfortunately, they are businesses too. They offer their services to pass you knowledge for a fee. Which school doesn’t have school fees. Not mentioning the basic education, because everyone goes through that, Universities are literally competing for the students to enroll in their courses. The schools want you as much as you need them. To your future employers, they see this as a weakness and its written all over your degree.
- Products in Batches – Schools are just like factories, so they spin batches of students with the same skillset and knowledge every semester. So every semester, you get a new batch of newer more advanced prototypes on the table ready for your employers to choose from and replace you.
- Market changes – Back to point 1. Businesses can now leave the everyday repetitive skill set based jobs and positions to the FTs. Locals need to move up to handle sales and customers, in short, to bring in money for the company. Its really a test of fast response, thinking, adaptive mindset. Not one that knows how to follow the books. So the newly joined employee that doesn’t have a degree who brings in more money than you gets high commission and will soon leech a higher paying position than you.
- Oppotunities – Too many opportunities out there. These are opportunities that can cause market changes because the people who remain unemployed and take up opportunities to become business owners themselves will cause instability in the market and bring about even worst economic situations that will bring about even greater unemployment.
That being said, your degree is still something to look forward to. Don’t be discouraged into getting a degree. Spend some time thinking about your degree and what’s your worth. Employers today seek to know your worth. They don’t need a piece of cert to tell them your worth. Think about what you are good at and what your degree sets you apart from every other individual out there that has this same piece of certificate. Your employers look at how you sees yourself, not how the paper tells them you are different.
One thing is for sure that when you get a degree, your employer sees you as someone who can get things done and completes it. Yea, and that’s really about it..
